Common Side Effects After Radiation Therapy for Leukemia

Radiation affects normal cells as well as cancer cells. It may cause side effects. They depend on how much radiation you get and where you get it. Here’s a list of common side effects people with leukemia may have after radiation. Ask your doctor or nurse which ones you are most likely to have.

  • Appetite loss

  • Diarrhea, if your abdomen is being treated

  • Fatigue, which is feeling tired

  • Hair loss

  • Increased risk for infection

  • Mouth sores

  • Nausea

  • Skin changes

Most of these side effects will go away or get better within a few weeks after your treatment ends.
